FIBRATRAFIC PROJECT

FIBRATRAFIC: Fiber optic sensors distributed for road traffic monitoring using telecommunication networks

Start date: May 1, 2020
End date: November 30, 2022

Objectives

The objective of the FIBRATRAFIC project is to develop a new road traffic monitoring system based on three fundamental technologies:

  • Fiber-based Distributed Acoustic Sensors (DAS)
  • Signal processing techniques
  • Machine Learning

There are 3 phases:

A first phase of technology development that will take place in a laboratory environment.

A second in which it will validate in a representative environment, specifically the connection that the UPNA laboratories already have with fiber optic cables that run along a road near the university will be used.

Finally, in the third phase of the project, a field prototype of the monitoring system will be built that will be installed and demonstrated in a real environment, taking advantage of the fiber optic networks of the Pamplona City Council and the Government of Navarra.
